Curriculum

Ø  Everyone LOVES circle time.

We start our adventurous day with circle time. This is where we learn about the calendar, days of the week, dress the weather frog, and read a story.  Each week we learn a nursery rhyme to sing this encourages memorization encourages participation with in a group and reinforces listening skills.

We also incorporate Spanish into the mix which has been shown to enhance intellectual development and improves overall school performance.

Ø  Then it is off to arts and crafts.  This is an important time for children.  It is not just scribbles and messy hands.  It is a time to explore.  They develop fine motor skills, build imagination, confidence and it encourages self-expression.

Ø  Math and science is taught to the children utilizing their experiences and knowledge, including their family and culture. This will strengthen children’s problem-solving and reasoning processes and will help them communicate mathematical ideas including;  sorting, classification, sequencing, spatial relationships, measurement, and number skills.

Ø  Science is also introduced to the child utilizing real world experiences.  They experiment “hands on” to help build problem solving skills, science concepts and experimentation, and observation.

Ø  CAUTION:  YOU ARE NOW ENTERING AN EMERGENT LITERACY ZONE!

Our facility is a print rich environment.  There are many books, posters, labels, games, puzzles and decorations designed to allow children to interact with the written word. By having the words placed strategically next to or on an item that the word represents, children are given the opportunity to associate the words to objects. They read and are read to, practice writing, play memory games, recite, and are exposed to an environment that provides children with opportunities to enhance language development and to foster early reading and writing skills.

Ø  It’s More Than Just Play!
Outdoor play cultivates the way kids develop physically, socially, and emotionally.  We have plenty to do out here.  Slides, swings, sandbox, water table, bubbles, sports games, and ride on toys help develop children’s creativity, imagination, social connections, and learned behaviors.  Children permitted to play freely with peers develop skills for seeing things through another person’s point of view--cooperating, helping, sharing, and solving problems.
